The band formed in 1976 and released their debut EP Three in 1979 exclusively in Ireland. Following the release of their single " Another Day " in 1980, U2 signed a recording contract with Island Records, and released their first album, Boy, later that year. The band has since released 14 studio albums, the most recent being Songs of Experience in 2017.

The photographs were taken by Dubliner Patrick Brocklebank, who worked as a graphic artist and photographer in the 1970s. 'Because I was always in town,' recalls Brocklebank, 'And because we were the same age, I’d often see U2 around the place. The show records the energy and ambition of a local band that would later conquer the world.'

One of the most instantly recognizable and influential guitarists in rock history, The Edge was born David Howell Evans, in Barking, Essex, in 1961. When he was two years old the family moved to Dublin. During his childhood he learned how to play the guitar and the piano. In 1978, the Edge became the guitarist and keyboardist of U2. The Edge is still in the group, who have conquered the world for nearly 30 years.
